Hi there. As some of you know I am converting my 120 gallon, 4x2x2 tank that was previously a planted discus tank to a sev and hopefully geo tank.
About 1/3 of the tank has ecocomplete covered by pool filter sand the rest is all pool filter sand. The sevs are redecorating so there is a bit of a peppered look to the sand which is ok. Question is, apart from the aesthics involved, do I need to remove the ecocomplete for the geos?? If so anyone know how to do it without a complete teardown?? Thanks Sue

geos should be fine. i have a jurupari in holding in a planted tank with eco complete and he goes through it just like normal sand

Just pick out any of the really larger pieces, otherwise they might get it stuck in their mouth. My plant eco complete has some huge pieces ... large enough that I wouldn't trust it with Satanoperca or Geophagus.

Hi there.. Thanks guys:clap, just wanted to make sure there was nothing in it that would hurt them. I guess its the older stuff as the particals seem to be pretty uniform.
Today I took the plunge and removed some of the ecocomplete and sand from the one side of the tank then did 2 water changes.. I felt it would be less stressful to leave the fish in the tank than to move all the driftwood etc to catch them. The fish are fine so in another day or so will do some more. Hopefully by the time I get my geos the tank will be mostly sand and be ready for them to make any kind of mess they want.
Thanks Sue..
