Hey guys,

I have a severum that often seems stressed for no particular reason. Water chemistry is good, I have nearly 20X filtration on her tank, do 40-50% water changes every week and feed high end food like hikari, omega one, and frozen stuff. Anyway, she's just so picky and sensitive, and I find that when she gets stressed she develops these little balls that look like ectoparasites of some sort. They usually develop right near the base of the pectoral fins, and on the pec fins themselves. Anyone else have this problem. Is salt and coppersafe a good potential remedy? I never see this on my other fish, but she seems prone to the problem. Thanks in advance.

I just recently treated something similar on the Pectoral fins of my Tiger Muskies (they had these larger than Ich spots on their fins that were Whitish/Yellow).

I was concerned that it was Ich at first, but realized later that it was probably just something bacterial in nature. I did a meds cycle for Ich (which my Plecos had) and stacked it with a broad spectrum Antibiotic, and they do not have the spots anymore.

I think Salt is generally used for Ich cures, but I have not read enough about Velvet and other Ecto's to really be sure.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I may have to try something like EM and see if it helps any.

What I went with was Mardel Maracide Concentrate for the Ich, and Maracyn-2 for the Antibiotic.

Best of luck!

Yup!

This is just a single pinkish spot at the base of her pectoral fin. Sometimes she gets the plain white spots, just one or two on that fin.
