I am trying to guess what the abbreviations are here on the forum.
For example "40b"
Does that stand for a 40 gallon breeder tank.
I have just been putting a "g" for gallons. i.e. "40g"
Is there a list of abbreviations in another thread.
Thanks for humoring me.....

A 40b is a 40 breeder, 36” x 18”
The g is an unnecessary addition but feel free to continue writing it like that as people can tell either way.
I believe there is bud, I’ll try to find it for you.

Ahh, I knew I had seen it somewhere. It was in the commonly asked section, pinned.

Something I had difficulty understanding when I entered the hobby is the word "BB"

BB = Beneficial bacteria
WC = Water change

It's also useful to just memorize names of fish because a lot of people abbreviate both common and scientific names.

True. I google every time when I read some tongue twisting scientific name. They are hard to memorize.

I've begun memorizing everything by its scientific name, as it avoids confusion, and by doing so it also makes it easier to pronounce new ones that I haven't seen before.

I've always wondered why those tanks were called "breeders",it's not like other sized tanks can't be used for that purpose.

I read an article about that quite some time ago, the majority of it has slipped from my memory but I remember that it has to do with the surface area that the 36” x 18” provides.
