wow it's hard finding infor on keeping native fish in a tank..... well hopefully you guys can help me.... I want a fish that strikes minnows, worms, leaches like a bass.... hard and powerful, with some decent size(not 30 inches) I was gonna do Pbass but realized they are way tooooo big. So I wanted to try some natives. I am going to be using a 150 gallon and want to know what kind and how many ontario natives I can put in there???? like yellow perch, bluegill, pumkinseed and so on. Are they difficult to care for???? I have a 135 gallon discus tank and water changes daily on that tank is enough I don't want two like that..... what is a good species to keep and what is the best way to care for them... lastly do I basicly just remove heaters and just let the water be room temperature???

Yes that is what I do. All of my tanks are at room temp. I think all of your choices would work great for a 150 but remember to get them all at a small size and grow them up together because bluegill can sometimes be a-holes. Also many people suggest green sunfish as LMB replacements. What will the dimensions of this tank be. Oh yea and almost all natives are very hardy. And one more fish to think about is black crappie.

thanx chad the tank is 72" x 18" x 30" ..... I was thinking of having just a yellow perch colony.... how many could i fit in this tank comfortably???? water changes weekly???

and can basic fishing bait be a good diet, like minnows, worms, leeches???? only lets says twice a week??

I would get maybe four or five in a tank that size. You would deffinatly have to do water changes atleast once a week. I prefer a couple smaller ones though. I would try to get them on pellets as it would be cheaper and way easier. They can eat any pellet that you would feed any other fish. I would go with just regular cichlid pellets mostly though. Regular fishing baits can be used to feed also. I use worms as treats and not very often because they dirty the water really bad. I would feed the juviniles about everyother day and then when they get older you could lengthen it to once every couple of days if you want to. But for now they would be best at every day or every other day.

Do give them something to swim around, my panfish seem to be more content with a few tall plastic plants or even a freestanding wall in the center of the tank.

Rock bass are cool, with huge mouths, they would eat anything.
