Noticed a white buldge on one of me eels in my 80 gallon 2 days ago, seen this before on my rocket gar, treated with raising tank temp and salt, after 3 weeks it popped and he healed up and started eating like nothing ever happened. When ui got home from work today my eel was dead with a horrible looking wound on his side where the large white spot was. Any ideas on what killed him? Really want to treat tank so i dont loose anymore fish. (This after coming home yesterday to my 125 gallon with ammonia spike and horribly cloudy water)
Water parameters
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrate 20 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm

I had a fire eel die this way....they are so stupid and just hang over or lean on the heater if you dont cover them...

Yeah, looks like heater burn. I don't keep eels, but have seen similar wounds from heaters. One more reason why I run a sump, so I can keep the heaters in there instead of the tank.

Poor thing sorry for your loss :(

ho.. i should read ur post early ....
i had my fire eel same as that , he always hide or hanging on the heater, so burn the skin then get fungal diseases , after i used medical for its, but it take long process a few weeks after its recovery itself and alive,
make sure used the heater cover if you have eel or clown loach or PNT / strainray ....
