on an icecube.....
i have 2 TT eels about 6" & and two fire eels 4" & 6", the problem is i cant get blackworms(what I've been feeding them the last two months)right now and at least two of them will take nothing eels(I've tried blood worms, shrimp, prawn, smelt etc.) I am going to try earth worms but is an all earthworm diet ok? and can anyone give some suggestions on getting them to all live in the same tank? right now the two TT eels are both in a 20g(small i know but my other fish will eat them)but ones always harassing the other and both beat on the larger fire eel weather i put either of them in his tank or him in theres(I've tried moving things around etc)would just putting them all in one tank spread out the aggression?(or maybe get another TT eel)and how much aggression is two much?

what are your other fish?i have a 5 inch yellow spiny eel with my 7-8 inch oscar and they have been fine since i got the eel about a month ago,he doesnt even get picked on

As far as i know Earthworms (nightcrawlers) are a fine diet. I have 2 tt and 1 12" fire eel that loves to be hand feed worms big or small doesnt matter!
My 12" fire eel is in a tank with a 8" Red Devil, 7" Jack and they do not pay any attention to the eel. The eel rubs against them when feeding and they totally ignore him! Give it lots of hiding places incase they mess with him.

i put one of the TT eels and my largest fire eel together again and they seem to be getting along ok this time, i tired feeding both of them worms and they ate them but only if there small and thin and only if there alive, and it just snowed again here so i dont think iam going to be digging up anymore worms for a wile:irked: (i tried the nightcrawlers you can get at bait shops but there to big)would just starving them untile they take some other food(prawn, smelt)be a good idea or are eels generaly realy picky?(i dont whant to starve them to death)dos anyone have any suggestions to get them to take dead food?

I posted a thread not too long ago in the "other monster fish" section titled "my new tire track" or something along those lines.I had put the TT eel,12", in with my fire eel, 11",and it beat the heck out of it and had ran it out of the tank within about two weeks.

I will say that I think it might have been a wild caught TT though and my fire eel was tank raised.

It would be sweet if it worked out though keep us updated.:headbang2

how thick are ur guys specimans at 12 inches?? because i have a 6inch peacock eel that is only like 2-3 cm thick.... wanting those thick monster eels like some of u good eel keepers...if not the peacock im plan on gettin a tiretrack eel which was my original plan but ended up with the peacock as mislabeled = / but jus wondering any1 have any peacockc that are nice and big and round and thic?

iam happy to say i now have both fire eels and my one TT eel(my other TT jump out:( )liveing in the same 36" tank now and there all getting along fine, the fire eels will only eat live small worms but i got the TT to eat cook shrimp and hes grown to over 8" now with feeding twice a day and hes a lot thicker too

IF there is a walmart and you are in the US they sell Canadian Nightcrawlers. Cheap for alot and big too! Good luck. My Fire Eel eats "krill" and worms. So did my ole TT before it jumped.

Go you walmart or a bait shop and buy some worm containers. If you live in a large enough area they should be available year-round. For smaller eels I feed what are called trout worms. They're also known as red wigglers - they're small red earthworms (about 2 inches) and they freak out and wiggle when they sense danger. For larger eels I feed canadian nightcrawlers. These are about as big as worms get. I have to cut most of the nightcrawlers in half so that my fire eel can swallow them. If the worms are too big the eels will spit them out.

I've fed my 18" long fire eel nothing but bait worms for the 2 years I've had him. He's big, fat, and doesn't seem to mind his diet. He won't accept anything else. I've heard you can trick your eels into eating different foods by chopping up worms and letting the wormy juices soak into foods over night. I guess the worm smell will stick to krill, smelt, etc. I haven't tried this method but it seems like a good way to supplement their diet.
