Greetings all.. I have a Macrognathus Siamensis doing fine in my four foot tank with gravel substrate, and some long tubing to play around with.. This guy is a replacement for another M.S. I had in my five foot tank - the five foot is setup up with sand, bogwood, and a bunch of medium cats... two plecs (one common, one sailfin), one Eupterus, one Syno Decorus, one Lima SN and one suncat.
My question is this: what would be an ideal eel for putting into this tank, to stir up the sand and ensure that I get no chemical buildups? The water in the 5' tank was checked, and was as close to perfection as could be (although slightly acidic, as you would expect from the bogwood).. it has been suggested to me that the Eupterus was the culprit, so I'm also looking for an Eel who will hold his own against some 12" or thereabouts catfish. Fishing the Eel out of the tank, he had no wounds on him, and had not been gnawed on by anyone. Any ideas?

Loveing this site... Thanks for the info!

Hello Welcome to MKF

How wide is your tank ? A fire eel or tiretrack eel would work we'll with your fish but may out grow your tank eventually

What was the problem with the Siamensis in the 5 foot tank ?

just watch the syno's, i had a s. eupterus with my fire eel and the syno chewed on it.

killerfish, thanks for the welcome :) Unfortunately, the siamensis passed away on the first night he was in the 5 footer. The noobie is doing fine in the 4 foot tank, however.

synodontisjack - thank you.. I'll definitely look into that one. Any ideas where in the UK would stock them? I'm pretty close to Wharf, which is the best supplier of Oddballs, as far as I know..

aidenb - thanks - as I said, it has been suggested.. I think I might need to find a new home for Mr Featherfin in the near future... did your syno kill the fire eel - or was it just a case of relocating before any damage was done?
