Anyone know the safest method of transferring a moray eel to a brackish or saltwater tank? How much acclimation time is needed? Would a typical drip system work well? My FW moray is slowing down eating but still growing well and looking good, but I really need to find a new home.

Ok thanks. Let me clarify my question. I have a moray eel in a freshwater set up. It is at the point that it is ready to be transferred to water with a lot more salinity...like brackish or saltwater. What is teh best method to do this to ensure the transfer goes properly?

Nope did not. I have already researched on MFK..did not find anything. So, let me ask one more time then I will assume no one knows and search elsewhere. Many say these eels need to be moved to either brackish or even full saltwater once they reach a certain age or size. Mine is near 28 inches, so it may be time to transfer it over.

Is it safe to just simply acclimate the temp and it will safely adjust to the higher salinity? I already know how to do the drip method...but is that enough time for this fish to safely adapt? Or do I need to slowly introduce over a few days.
Please...just people with experience on this matter answer this one.

well you need to find out what kind of Moray Eel it is, here is a bit of info on a true fresh water moray...

Fresh Water Moray Eel

Thanks for the info...but I already knew what type it is (gymnothorax tile) and I know it is NOT a freshwater moray but needs brackish water for ultimate survival. Although, it can survive in fresh water for some time.

As my question indicated, I was looking to see if anyone had experience transferring them from fresh water to brackish water. I see no one does so never mind....

The first thread I posted showed you how you do it, with dripping the new brackish tank water into a bucket or bag with the with the eel and the old tank water so it can slowly get used to the new brackish conditions, just follow the steps in the first link I posted...

.

You know giving advise is part of what MFK is all about, but pushing advice and repeatedly arguing the same point is....well just plain rude.

well that is how people I know normally do it, do you have any other input rather then saying I am rude by telling him that people use the drip method to do what he wants?

if you want you can do the long drawn out waste of time method by slowly adding salt for a period of 7 days until you reach the desired gravity...

Oh yeah with the dip method you need to let it drip for about 3 hours not just dump in the new water, and this method is just fine.

so if you think recommending the fastest easiest method is being rude also who was arguing? then I guess I am a rude brick...:screwy:
