eel id please, seems strange

They are a species of Anguilla but I don't know which one. I saw them when I was doing research on Moorea (the island next to Tahiti). They get really big! We saw some that were around 6 feet. Here are a couple photos I was able to dig up from the trip! Sorry couldn't find pics of the really large ones

Yea their a possability its one of two things an eletric eel or a swamp eel both true freshwater not spiny eels maybe if you got a pic of them closer id be able to tell

Both wrong.. it's an Anguilla anguilla... aka European eel... or one of it's very close cousins. But my money is on a European. they've been introduced to a few countries now... as they are very good eating. Def a Monster fish though. You would have best luck looking for them in a city live fish market. On the up side they are quite easy to find.
 
I'm pretty sure these are a native species of Anguillia not the European kind. River Monsters did a special on the ones native to New Zealand this last season
