Well this morning i was awakened by my eel jumping out of my tank. There was a plastic cup in the back of my tank and he was hitting that when he was trying to swim on the floor. Hes doing fine and eating. I have all-glass tops. The right side has the plastic strip on it and thats the side he got out on. The left side has no plastic strip i forgot where i put it still trying to find it. What would be the best way to cover up the gap in the back of my tank?

duct tape. My snakeheads try and jump but are DENIED! Good ol duct tape. I had an eel once jump out of my tank and i couldn't find it for ages. Until about 3 months later when i was loading up a m16 bb gun and found him all dried up in the jar of BB's that was next to the tank...

Plexi-glass works well too, but sqratch said, duct tape will be cheaper. I have had several eels, and the back of my tanks always had big gaps near the filter and stuff, but none of them ever jumped out...guess I got lucky!

I use egg-crates (for lighting) for tank covers.

They are readily customizable and no fish thicker than 1" in diameter can fit through it.

Best of all, they're cheap and available everywhere (I got mine from the local hardware store).

Haven't had a fish jumping out since I began using it.

You can even double stack to overlap the holes so they're smaller.
