I have 3 smaller eels 5"-8" in a gorw out 55g and at first they were on the surface eating bloodworms as i dumped them in. Now they spend 99% of their time under the substrate and I'm like why even dump the worms in? They don't come out to eat them and most get sucked up into the filter before they are eaten...

what to do ?

take out substrate?

I even made these nice caves that they used at first and now no longer use....

I think i may find some smaller dither fish to add to eat excess food.....

Try spot-feeding them with a turkey baster. Drop it right on their heads, and I doubt they'll ignore it then. If any food escapes into the gravel, the eels will find it eventually. Mine always do.

It looks like your tank is pretty bright. Try more subdued lighting or feeding at night.

i hung a curtain in front of the tank and turned the light off to make it dark they seem to be coming out..

the tank looks pretty good mabye add a few plants

but you should switch the type of rock you use that type has sharp edges and could cut or scrape your eels skin you could try the same set up but with smooth rocks or mabye some driftwood

helpful,

i have some other rocks that are less sharp-

this is just a bulk up tank so that they can go in my bigger tank where they will hopefully be too large to fit through the overflow grate...

these guys probably don't grow very fast huh?
