It’s an Eshopps L kit. Eel about a foot long

Narrower weir.

It’s pretty narrow. I think I may try putting piece of filter foam from sump in there

I personally suggest a mesh screen or a mesh bag. I think the sponge will slow the flow of water entering the overflow.

Maybe a piece of egg crate/light diffuser

Or try the craft store mesh plastic canvas, it comes in various mesh sizes, colors including black.
