..This guy was picked up from an abandon tank..and was really emaciated when we got him, you could see the entire outline of his skull ( but had already packed on some weight in the past 3 days of feeding)

..he looks like a mastacembelus armatus to me..but I hope someone on here can give me a good ID ..got some video for now he is shy of the camera.

really outgoing fish! he is about 8 inches now.

currently housed in my 65g 36x18x25 ..will this be large enough for him for life?

all the smaller fish are due to be moved out and rehomed with in a few weeks.

any help would be great.

tbh I'm amazed hes still alive.. and I agree he looks like an Armatus to me as well if not then a Favrus but def one of those 2 TT's... at his state/size its hard to say if he'll ever get close to his potential but the 65 should keep him happy a good year or 2 imo.. if hes already stunted ect he should be fine in the 65 for life. Just beware ime these guys will eat tank mates if they are small enough. if you haven't already chopping up nightcrawlers will def bulk him up or when hes by himself keeping a constant supply of live blackworms in the tank will also give him the best chance at making a complete recovery. imo he has potential to be a spectacular fish.

Nice Save!

Thank you for the impute ..I will try and get better pics of him a soon as I can. I will try the earthworms tonight.

the outline of his skull is slowly starting to soften and he is definitely rounder he was in QT for a few weeks at the Friend who picked up the abandon tank..no tank mates that he is currently with are big enough to fit in his mouth yet^_^

but he does have pretty large eyes so i fear he might be stunted, the person who abandoned the tank said they had him for two years.

so hoping for the best!! ..he is a pretty awesome fish.

Edit:

wow just gave him a small worm..he sucked it right down!..good thing we have a large compost full of them.

well he is eating like a pig and putting on weight rapidly ..going to try and get better pics soon for an ID.
