Just like the title say, I'm curious if there are any eels that could survive in my 110G with about 30 Mbuna and 10 Clown Loaches? I know they have different dietary needs but that can be addressed, I'm more concerned about the eel being harassed to the point where it is always buried in the sand.
With mbunas there will be no way it will live in my experience. Haps and peacocks my fire eel thrived. Practically the same diet of more meaty foods so to speak. And my tanganyikan eel survived with my frontosas. I really suggest not mixing them with mbunas.
Many people keep eel with CA cichlids which are far more aggressive imo than mbuna and as long as you get a utensil or a way to feed him he will be fine. He will not be able to compete for food.
I experimented by putting a 5" tire track eel with my mbunas. There's about 20 of em in a 90 gallon tank. He's not being harassed but I have to hand feed him, otherwise food never makes it more than halfway to the bottom.
when i had a SA tank i had a peacock eel in there. he did well. then i made the switch to africans and he got stripped to the bone so dont get a peacock eel, they're too timid/slow to compete for food with africans. maybe a firetrack eel would ork for you, i've seen them with other africans
