Eel with severe problems. Vent protrusion, Bloat? Parasites?
I woke up this morning, to find one of my freshwater Moray eels on its back, and from its vent was protruding an organ which I assume to be an intestine. A second eel of the same species lives in the tank, and seems to have no problems. I have had these fish for 5 months now, and no new fish or other objects have been introduced to the tank in the last 3 weeks.
Water is well filtered and oxygenated, salinity is around 1.009. The in-tank Ammonia detector says its fine.
After 15 years of keeping fish, I have never had this problem before.
Any ideas on how to help this eel?
Here is a close up.
In the meantime, I am doing a partial water change and lowering the salinity a bit.
