Eelpout...how have i never heard of these guys before?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lake Sylvan is alot smaller than Leech Lake.

If you know a pout filled lake I am all ears. If you get a lot I would be willing to make the drive if you know the spots. A buddy and I have been looking for a few years. Aside from running up to poutfest, been thinking about it.

The little guys finally took the frozen chopped krills and some small leeches tonight. Its odd that they don't use their sight to finding the foods. Instead they use their tiny chin whisker to locate the foods.

we have loads of them in n.maine. i have my shack on eagle lake near home to catch smelts in winter. if you get within 5ft. of the bottom you get burbot, called cusk around here. they're so tough you can freeze them near solid put them in the sink at home and it'll start swimming again! I've kept one all summer in a kidde pool in the shade but our summers are cool up here. anything that smells will attract them as they're scavengers as well as predators.

Find some more info...i sure hope someone has one lol...

Chiller may be needed for the Burbot a.k.a. eelpout, and they are full fresh. Can be found living up to 300meters deep in lakes and spawn under the ice
