Eelpout

That's so cool. I was wondering is it like the opposite hibernation with eelpout? In the winter they are "awake" and the summer and warmer months they hibernate.

Maybe they only eat earthworms and minnows cause they are wild. they eat what they can find in nature.

Well....the fisherman do caught eelpouts in middle of summer on the leeches in shallow parts of the lake, suggests that the eelpouts are feeding in the summer and do not hibernate but good theory!

You are right, my eelpout only takes minnows and chopped earthworms but won't touch the pellets or any smaller "non-minnow" fish with them which I was surprised that eelpouts are supposedly not being fussy eaters.

Oh ok. Maybe try if it takes dead fish like silversides and stuff them with pellets

its possible they feed all year long but up north here they slow right down once surface temps are over 70 f. may be different in M.N. my grandfather said they sleep in deep water mud in july , august. in the cold water they're tough to kill.
