So I'm looking at setting up a red cherry shrimp breeder tank for my tire track eel to feast on.

On a normal routine I'd throw in 1 or 2 a day (augmented with meal worms, blood worms, etc).

However, when I go on vacation for a week, could I just throw in 20 shrimp? Would he gorge himself and eat everything day 1 and get sick, or would it spread out?

I know dogs would just gorge and get sick, but their food doesn't run away. I figure the hunting will need enough effort he'll stop when full???

Anyone do this??

ime spiney eels will stuff themselves until they are full. On that note i routinely take a week long vacation and never feed my eels before I leave and let them fast for that week. But I will feed them very well the weeks leading up so they have abit of a "reserve" if you will built-up... this accomplishes a few things includeing no big dumps in the tank while we're gone to mess the water quality up. no chance for dead food to pollute the water ect.... the only time i'de hesitat eto do this was if he was with smaller fish that could potentially become food towards the end of the week.

spinys are also know to go on long hunger strikes, a week without eating doesnt phase most spiny eels.

if it were me Id throw some extras in there and leave, he'll be ok.

also if youre going to set up a tank just for food, id probably look into ghost shrimp. They get bigger and i hear arent as particular about water quality to breed, at least thats what i read. I have never had any shrimp reproduce, i dont know this from experience.
