I am just getting into eels I have 2 zebra spiny eels and one freshwater moray BTW I know the moray is not freshwater :) I was just curious as to how you cover the filters so they do not get out. Anyone have any pics. I heard the morays are really strong so would be intrested on lids. My guys are small now so I have sponge filters and wire over the top.

put heavy things on your lids that what i do.

I dont have custom lids or anything. Just scraps of plexi that I tape down.
I have 3 separte box filters, and also a return from an overhead refugium.
I tape all the solid stuff...then I went to menards, got a cheap roll of black fiberglas screen.
I use this to enclose filters and any gaps.
Duct tape the screen.
its cheap and you can replace it when you clean

I haven't done anything special with/to my lids, and I have yet to experience a single escape attempt, and I've had my eel for over a year now. The only time I have ever done anything to hold the lid down was last summer before I went on vacation for a week and I duct-taped all of the lids down, but that was mainly just to keep my arowana from jumping out while I was gone.

duct tape.. But I agree I've never had major issues with jumping. 'cept with peacock eels.. but my 3 fires, tire track, or 2 Mac dayi's haven't tried ... Aggression issues will cause jumping, other environmental issues will also induce it. I've always found a reason for jumpers.. Something in the lay-out is not right... My Tire track has gone up into my filter before.. I use Penguin filters.. and just use some rubber bands to hold the front cover-plate tight.. He can't move it anymore, and after a few days I haven't seen him or heard him at night try it. I doubt if I took the rubberbands off he'd try again.. but.. no reason not to leave it. he also got a few new hide spots as well..

Thanks guys I do have lots of rocks and hiding places.:)

Rubberband the lid to the filter down so he can't force it up with his momentum. Smart....going upstairs with rubberband ... now
