Does anyone have experience with eels and polypterus together. I have a 11" teugelsi and probably won't get the 15" fire eel at the lfs but it is tempting. I am mostly afraid the eel will lose an eye. Please share your experiences.

I have spiny eels and bichirs together. They do fine. Just make sure that the eels are already know how to eat none worms or none live feeders foods. Or else they will just hide and starve itselft to death. Before buying the eels ask an lfs employee to feed it and see how it reacts. If u really want the eel but is not eating separate it and train it to eat none worm or none feeders. Try mussels, shrimps, smelts, fish fillet and pellets. Once get use to the tank setup it will always beg for food whenever you come to front of the tank and u can teach it to be hand feed. Mine is 27-30" and same thickness as my arm. I got fire eels, tire track eel, false tire track eel with my bichirs. They are actually more active than bichirs and can be knock off ur heater or filter intake or any decoration. They sometimes spook my bichirs when they swim around looking for food.

I've had no problems as long as the eel is equal in size of larger then the bichirs involved.

make sure the eel is in good condition enough to be a semi aggressive feeder. Otherwise it will be difficult to feed them if ur bichirs are pigs. That was the only problem i encountered.

Try live black worms. When I bought my ray she wouldn't even eat feeders. Right when I put in some blackworms, she was chowin down like there was no tomorrow.

You might get some more help in the eel section http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=235

I have 24 inch black spotted eel in with 2 22 inch ornate bichirs and they seem to pretty much leave each other alone. Eel is more aggressive eater than the bichirs. I am growing out a small tire track eel. Seems pretty reclusive and does not eat at every feeding. I go a little heavy on the bloodworms so there are always a few unfound morsels for him to find after lights out. Growing well.
