i hadnt seen my fire eel be very active all day, but i was able to see his little head poking out from under driftwood where he usually has a little cave. I brushed this off as he was just in a good hiding spot that he liked. hours pass by and he doesnt move i finally take a closer look becuase something just didnt feel right, on closer inspection i see almost no gap between driftwood and sand, i think to myself there cant possibly be enough space down there. I call my hubby to check it out, we try coaxing (Sp?) the eel out, nothing....
My hubby tells me oh hes just hiding thats what they do. I stil dont see how he could fit in such a mall space. I finally decide to grab the net and pull the driftwood up and al i see is a limp eel body just start to float around,
he's alive but he seemed injured, Turns out my other bottom dweller who digs huge holes apparently dug to close to the eel and made the driftwood sink on top of the poor eel.
after about 2 min the eel finally snaps out of his limpness and stops looking dazed. U can see the area in his tail where he was being caught under the driftwood. I think he'll be ok though, he already swimmig around like normal.
lesson here, dont assume that a fish that likes to hide and is known for hiding forever is always JUST hiding. Check up on them every so often.
