Eels from river monsters?

i think its a american eel look it up on google images it looks like it
 
i think those are aguilla species. they are giant because they never went out to sea to reproduce. american eel is in the same genus as far as i know
 
They are Anguilla dieffenbachii. I did a little research when I watched that show. I didn't really find anything on them in captivity but I know from my past experience keeping american eels you have to have a super tight fitting lid.

They are New Zealand Longfin eels. Amazing fish grow very old. the largest i caught was almost 2 metres long when i was a kid as round as my thigh
. scary damn things. i use to have the same nightmare of diving down and seeing a giant head of one pop out of this huge hole arrrrrggghh
