Hello all, I just purchased 4 eels for my 210. I bought 2 fire and 2 tiretracks. Would this tank be big enough for the 4 of them? The guys at my lfs said they would. The fires are 10". Tire tracks 5".... I also have 3 zig zags, but their size isn't a concern.

I'd guess it'd depend on how much stuff you have in there. but as the fire eels and TT's grow they are going to start killing eachother.

How sure are you that they would be aggressive with eachother?

I've read tire track eels usually kill the fire eels.

For future reference, the people at the average LFS are probably going to lie to get you to buy things. They make money off of making you think you can keep more than you actually can. Also, they make money off of people replacing fish that have died or been killed.

Everyone knows that. I've been going to this lfs for the last 15 years, thought it was more of trust advice than a business transaction.

The only spiney eels that I have heard you can keep with others are the smaller peacock eels. They actually seem to benefit from an eel society. I can tell you I had 2 fire eels in the same tank and as juveniles they did seem to want to stay near one another. Now I have only one fire eel, but I can tell you that at 14+ inches he probably wouldn't take kindly to another eel. The fire eel is a very intelligent creature. Me thinks they get jealous of sharing the attention.
