I don't know if we have a special section for eels, but can anyone share his/her experience with keeping spiny or tire-track eels? My LFS is selling some, but they're barely larger than Khulis. How big do they get? What do you feed eels this small? What's the minimum tank size? Can I mix a spiny with a tire-track? Tnx! :newbie:

i have a spiny peacock eel about 9". they like ghost shrimp once they get bigger. i've had it for about 6 months and only see it when i'm cleaning the tank. i've gone months at a time w/ out buying ghost shrimp though. i think bloodworms should work for a smaller one.

Yes I have one and he came out of his hole for the first time in about a month and a half. Had him about 7 months and came out maybe 4 times? But he is still alive...:screwy:

I have 3 spiney eels, my peacocks are looking to be adopted though :D I'm just keeping my tiretrack cuase hes cool and i actually see him all the time. I love the fact he swims around and his python pattern on his body. He eats feeder guppies and ghost shrimp and bloodworms and frozen brine. Do keep a good lid on your tanks though cause the second day i had him plop in the filter.

I had a tire track eel.

I originally bought two, and one killed the other.

Eats from my hand, and very personable fish. HOWEVER, it'll try to escape the tank. I had a wet-dry filter and it'll always swim inside the overflow and sometimes end up in the sump.

Fed him bite size market shrimp, worms, squid, rosy red, just about anything meaty.

good web site all info is pretty good except tank sizes
i have a peacock ell had what i think was a tire track ell but it died thay like to burrow in the sand so have small gravel or sand also make sure thrers no sharp pieces to cut them but thay can be kept togather if there the same size
there easyist to feed one young try bloodworms brine shrimp and mine seem to really like mysis shrimp bigger ones are hard to fill up on these foods so try market shrimp or earth worms
also tire track and fire eels can both get over three feet so you'll need a big tank also tire track and fire eels will rid you tank of any small fish so make sure all fish are bigger than lets say a gourami or congo tetra

i have had a fire eel for over 2 years now he/she was about 5" then, now about 15" gorgeous fish takes food from my fingers and will eat just about anything from worms to shrimp, pieces of fish, cockles, mussels etc just as long as they have somewhere to hide where other fish can't get and you will see more of them also try not to let nitrate rise too high and def no amm or nitrites! they can live with a range of fish from peaceful cichlids to oddballs etc hope you enjoy yours!:D

fire eels rock! i have 3, ranging from 17" to just under 24" and all are awesome. easy to make handtame and will eat a lot of different foods when used to it. Mine will eat mussel, shrimp (with and without shell), worms and even fish filet. For the 2 smaller eels i have a tube to hide in but the biggest one doesnt have one as he doesnt seem to need one. Hes very active and alwas begging for food. I can deffo recommend one to anybody who loves big eels.
