Hi,

If I were to add an extension to my canister's output head so that the flow is more near the bottom of the tank, is that ok? I was thinking it may be a good way to circulate substrate debris without buying a powerhead.
Obviously this would cause the filter motor to work harder. Would this be too much stress for it to handle or should I be fine?

thank you

You may loose some GPH (Gallons per hour) of your water turn over but shouldn't be much. If your only adding a couple feet and its inside the tank, shouldn't cause any problems.

You should be fine. I know some people who built their own filtration systems and did just what your talking about to help try to agitate the bottom to keep poop and debris from
gathering on the bottom.

I like surface agitation for gas exchange... do you have an air pump or anything running to aerate the water in its place?
