I was cruising the web and caught a article Dam construction in Brazil.

I wonder what effect this will have on tropical fish coming out of Brazil in regards to collection. Many of the fish I'm fond of come out of Brazil. It seems like it would be harder to catch them in deeper water and some species range may just dry up?

Oops...this should of been in lounge.

A lot of them will be wiped out. Brazil already restricts a lot of fish from being collected including ones that will likely be wiped out from the dam.

Being from brazil and visiting every year, I can tell you from first hand experiences that dams are having an effect on wildlife. Im not sure about collecting and exporting because i know the laws are so strict but from my experiences it seems that the biggest effect damn have had are on the native fish population. Invasive fish like tilapia are out-competing native fish for food and it is definitely noticeable. At the paraibuna dam near sao paulo where we used to fish, it seems like every year we would catch more and more tilapia and less native fish.
