Not CA's...... Most centrals come from hard/alkaline water (extremely hard and alkaline in some cases). There are all kinds of water types in SA, but most of them are neutral to soft.
FishFarm had it right. Limestone is a good addition to CA tanks.
Which one is the holey rock? Is that the stuff that's mainly white with the orange/rusty streaks through it? Or is the holey rock the stuff those caves are made of, that pitted stuff that almost looks like coral...or is that lace rock? Wondering because I have both and if they increase pH and hardness I'll ditch them.

You'll ditch them because you have SA cichlids? I hope that's the reason.
Lace rock is grey and volcanic looking. Sometimes reefers use it as base rock. Lace rock is inert, so it's safe in all situations. I try hard to get the smoothest pieces I can find as it can easily scratch fish.
Holey rock is the white limestone rock that has water worn holes and caves in it.

Yea, because of the SA's. Got a bunch of rockwork with the tank I bought (craigslist tank), it was an african setup and had a ton of rockwork. My water's already on the hard side so I'll take out the holey rock I think.
