Hey guys, had an idea recently...ever think of using eggshells as caves for a cichlid tank? Im not talking about chicken eggs though..i was thinking within the lines of goose eggs and ostritch eggs..three are farms out there that sell eggs right? Ive already made two "cavelings" out of goose eggs...ive taken every precaution of taking EVRYTHING out of the egg...but leaving a single hole big enough for a small convict to probably fit in...so is there any downside to doing this? I just wanted to make sure it was ok before i put them in...

so...what do you mean by that?

a: ill sit down and watch your diy caves fail..
b: ill sit down and watch your tank come apart at the seams...
c: i think that would look cool in a tank..

I would think your cichlids would eventually crack and/or destroy your egg cave depending on what cichlid you get. I know my red devil and two JD's move heavy clay pots around the tank for what looks like fun to them. My pleco moves everything rather aggressively.

eggs could dissolve... im not sure but arent they made of calcium? could dissolve and mess up you water quality, alot like putting antlers in a tank

I'm not sure how they'd hold up over time either. Do you have an abundance of goose and/or ostrich eggs laying around? Why not just use clay pots?
