Where would I be able to find Egg Crate dividers? I went to Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot and all the sales associate looked at me funny when I asked them for egg crates..I'm planning on breeding some of my cichlids and would like a sturdy divider..Thanks!

Ask for suspended ceiling light diffusers.

"Egg crate" is more of a slang term. As mentioned, they are ceiling pieces used over large areas, typically in commercial buildings. I use it on the bottom of my aquarium as recommended to spread the weight of decorations (rocks/wood) around evenly. I think it would make a great divider for a larger tank if the "insect screen" ones sold in pet shops don't fit. Be sure to secure it properly. Cichlids in heat can be tough!

ive never yet found them them in the uk, ive been to loads of diy places

FWIW, they are very good for tank dividers, but they are also handy as cut-to-fit covers for a tank as well

my tanks were regularly runnng about 5-degrees warmer than I wanted, but when I replaced my glass tops with egg-crate plastic tops, the problem went away almost immediately . . . yes, I have to top-off the tanks more often due to increased evaporation, but it's well worth it

also, the egg crate doesn't need to be wiped clean like the glass tops did, and it lets me feed the fist directly w/o having to open any lids . . .

And if you're in a cooler climate where you want to keep heat in the tanks, you can cover the egg crate with thin acrylic to make DIY lids:)

Most of the time you can look up at the lights in the store and they have "egg crate' as a diffuser over them... ;) so point up and say "where can I find that stuff"
