i've been trying to breed my red devils and convicts for a while now. on the 3rd day they all turn white with a cottonish look. from what i am told this is fish fungus. i've tried the medicine made specificly for chiclid egg fungus but this does not help none. i hope some1 can throw me a clue lmk

i think that happens because the eggs arent fretile

^^ agree. When the eggs are not fertilized they will start to grow the fungus. Nothing you can do about it. It's just that one of your devils isn't able to do their part in the fertilization process. You can add all the meds you want, it's not gonna help. Sorry.

The overall color of the eggs isn't really a good indicator of fertilization. What you really need to look for is a black dot in the center of the eggs. This will give the eggs an overall darker appearance, but will be distinctive of fertilized eggs. I hope that helps.

it helps but at the same time depresses me. that means both mating pairs i have cannot produce. ;(

I agree with everyone on the board, but also, try this (it works for me like a charm, after having the same results that you have had):

As soon as you see the eggs laid, put a SMALL airstone beside the eggs. It will keep water/air/heat circulating in that given area. It will also eliminate most of the fungal growth. Good luck!

sometimes it takes time they will try 5 times and on the 6th or 7th it will take so just be patient

I've seen 2 batches of eggs in my goldfish tank in the past few weeks, and each time I'm excited, but they get infected with a water mold pretty quickly (~24 hours). I know I have 5 males in the tank, and I wasn't sure I even had a female, so I don't know who it is :)

I looked at the infected eggs under the microscope, and even grew the fungus out on a Petri dish. The species escapes me right now, but it wasn't Saprolegnia... maybe Aphanomyces, I forget.

I'm guessing mine weren't fertilized either; they got moldy quick and I didn't see anything in the egg under the microscope.
