So the last two times my Jd layed eggs the eggs have developed a fungus and do not hatch. The male is in the tank with her, and they have had many batches before. Anyone have an idea on whats going on. I guessedd that he didnt fert them the first time but why would he fert them, he guards them with her like he did.. Could it be something in my water and if you think hes not fert the eggs why would he be if they have already had many batches..

Non fertilized eggs turn into fungus easily, the eggs are not being fertilized.........Or, there could be a problem with the water chemistry......Try adding a powerhead to the tank when the eggs are fertilzed, right after the male has finished courting and spraying his sperm...............A powerhead pushing water over the egg batch will definatley rid a lot of what is attaching to the eggs and growing into fungus..........

i have a power head in the tank so there is decent flow over the eggs. But why would he just stop fert the eggs. Nitrates in the tank are a little high could this be a cause of fungus on the eggs. That's all i can think of because other then that my water params are good.

Sometimes the Male just doesn't do his thing right, maybe to much water flow the wrong direction from where he was. My GT's spawned twice successfully, missed twice, then spawned successfully two more times without me changing anything. By missed I mean the eggs grew the same fungus you mentioned (from not being fertilized). my temp is always 79, hope this helps.

I think he means not good enough filtration, but if there is a white film that starts at the top of the egg then they're not getting fertillized.

CHeck the eggs ratio of unfertilized to fertile............Purchase a 20-55g tank(used or new)..........Once the pair lays, take out the rock or plant they layed the batch on.....Hatch out the eggs in the seperate tank........Hatching begins within 3 days, no later........

How do you hatch them out in a separate tank dont water params change. They just layed another batch!! Is there anyway to tell if he ferted them this time?

They just keep lip locking.. She doesn't let him near the eggs.. Not sure if he did his thing already...
