do egg spots on the anal fin always mean male? or can some females have them as well? i have 1 male venustus, 3 livinstonii (pretty sure all are male) and 6 red empress with one dominant male and a few sub dominant males that show no color but have slightly pointed anal fins and have some egg spots, i have two for sure females as well as two very nice OB peacocks (male female pair) and two unidentified peacocks just wanted to find out thanks for the info guys!

Egg spots on anal fins are no gurantee of sex. Some female cichlids also have egg spots. Most females usually have rounded dorsal fins. Males are usually pointed. Best way to sex fish is to vent them.

im hopingto get some eye biters, malawi trout, and some alto calvus eventually along with a female venustus and female livingstonii (i want breeding pairs/ harems of everything lol)

They have totally different personalities and the calvus don't "understand" the messages the malawis are giving out.
i was planing on giving the calvus they're own tank since they'd be WAY smaller then my current stock
