Found a whole load of eggs in my 4 foot tetra tank yesterday. There's not much in there but a couple of rocks, a LOAD of Java moss and the fish. Neons, Black neons, glowlights, x-rays, platinums, cobalts (Peruvian tetras?), flames, rummynose, a couple of kyathit danios, a couple of Kuhli loaches, a couple of Siamese algae eaters and five bronze cories....

I first noticed that there were a load of eggs stuck to the java moss, near the top of the tank, in the flow from the filter. Then, when I looked a bit further, I saw some stuck to the glass at the back of the tank and the side, but again, near the top.

I'm thinkin' it must have been the cories, but I never heard of them spawning near the TOP of a tank?
Any ideas guys?

Eggs have been removed and put in their own tank so they won't get eaten with a little sponge filter, water from the tetra tank and an airstone. Had to use a scalpel blade to get the ones on the glass off!

One or two were white, so I removed them. If they are cory eggs, what should I expect?

It think if it's cory eggs, they need to have microworms or brine shrimp as their first meal. If it's tetra eggs, they'll probably need to start off with infusoria.

Just as a heads up, i found some small eggs on the side of my tank near the top stuck ot the glass fairly recently... turned out it was snail eggs. You may have some snails lurking in the java moss as they can hide pretty well in there, and depending on their size they may be in egg laying prime. Not to steal your thunder, just warning you it may not be fish eggs!

Sounds like snail eggs to me, you'll know in a few days anyways. Snail eggs take longer to hatch than fish eggs do. If it's contained in a glob of clear goo then they are snail eggs for sure. They wouldn't be tetra eggs because those would be too small to see and wouldnt form sticky clumps anywwhere.

I feed the snails and their eggs to fish that will eat them. Bit more involved than some people like to get, but if crushing up snails to feed to fish doesn't bother you it's really cheap food :).

Got back from work today to find LOADS of tiny fry swimming around!
I think they must be Cories, but have no idea if they are!
Liquidised some fry flakes and poured them into the tank to at least give them SOMETHING to eat, but have no idea what I SHOULD be feeding them...!

Help!

Infusoria take a few days to develop, yes?

But if they are cory fry, what should I be giving them?

Go to lfs and try to get some microworms or buy some baby brine shrimp you can find it frozen at least in the states . at least this is what I've heard for egg laying fish fry but they do not need fed till the yolk is gone . I know my livebearer do fine on fry food like your feeding.

yehp frozen brine is good there is an easy way to tell fish eggs from snail eggs as a general snail eggs are surrounded by a gel!
