So I picked up a 14 inch jag a few weeks ago and posted a pic on here, most people thought it was a male. I have never seen this huge jag show any signs of aggression, it really is a gentle giant. I was at the LFS a few days ago and found what looked like a female 9 inch jag all beat up in a tank with some red devils. I picked up the jag and hoped she would work out in my tank as a rescue.

Long story short TWO DAYS later the jag I thought was male was female, the female turned out to be a male and now I have 1000 gold looking eggs in my tank.

I have never breed any fish before so my question is what do you guys typically do with all of the fry? I have a 20 gallon tank I can transfer them into when the times is right, but I am still not sure what to do with them all.

I got really excited when I first got a few hundreds of Jaguar fry. And the bigger the female, the larger the batch. After 6 months, you will have a few thousands ... :D

I gave them up a long time ago, and never look back because I had no way to dispose them even though a pair of Jaguar is an awesome sight.

These fry will survive under any condition. They won't die unless you intentionally kill them. And after a few months, what size of tank you want to house a few hundred of these?

I traded in my pair of Jag and roughly about 6-700 fry of 3 batch to a local fish store for $20 worth of fish food.

A year later, my local craigslist were full of Jag fry posts people tried to "re-home" ...

Guess where they came from ... :D

they should be fine. feed them hikari newborn fry food when they start to free swim once they are big enough you can move them to the 20 gal. or keep then were they are . look for local fish stores that will buy them or sell them on aquabid.com
