So for a while now ive raised these 2 jags from juvies. im talkin .5" i got them from the fish store and that was about this time last year now they are pretty decent sized. Well anyways i just got home from work today and fed them. I havent payed any attention to them for a few days. Well i knew they were a pair from how theyve been acting for the past 6 months since theyve been 2.5". Well anways i look at one of the pieces of slate rock on the bottom of a piece of driftwood and what do my eyes see.

About 40 eggs. This would be their first spawn but i had a few questions.
First off a few of the eggs are white and the rest brown what does this mean?
Second off how long will it take the eggs to hatch?

the ones that are white are not fertilized and the rest should be fine and let the parents take care of them :) They should hatch in 3-5 days and Congratz!!!

If there is only 50 left the eggs might have been laid a day earlier or longer. If you can see black dots that is the developing embryo. Usually 3-5 days post hatch the fry will become free swimming. And another 3 days for them to stop feeding on their yolk sac. I usually continue with water changes once they have hatched, but avoid the spawning area. Congrats with your pair.

Nice Jags. My Jags laid eggs late last week and the babies are wiggling all over the bottom of the tank now. You should see some movement in another day or two.
