I have a couple of 1260's and was looking to trade for or purchase a couple of 1262's. Someone in the thread mentioned that there was a mod to upgrade my existing pumps. I looked around online and found that people just changed the pump cover to part number: 7443670. Was thinking about trying this out but was wondering if any of you guys have done this. If so, does it work and how long have you been running it without any issues?

Thanks in advance.

deeda would know. the local expert on all things ahem 2260/2262.

Thanks for ^^ David! I'm not an expert but do enjoy my 2260/62 filters!

My personal belief is that just changing the 1260 pump cover to a 1262 pump cover will NOT increase to the rated GPH of a 1262 pump. I haven't tried it myself and the couple people that actually have tried it have not posted any actual measured results from swapping them.

I've done it. While I was never able to quantify the increase it flow, believe me when I say it was night and day. Best $15 I've spent in a while.

Dear All,

I talked to an electrical engineer, friend of mine. His conclusion is that the electric motors must be different between the 1260 and 1262 pumps, and here is why:

With everything else the same, wattage usage increases with resistance, i.e. if the filter clogs up or the outlet is restricted, then the motor will use more watts to power through. The opposite is the case if you decrease resistance, as would be the case when you change the volute cover to accommodate higher flow.

But it is impossible to turn a lower wattage pump into the 80 W 1262 by simply changing out hardware.

You may increase flow by changing to a lower resistance cover. Your wattage will go down. But you will not have the high torque of an 80 W pump. You will not be able to power through as the filter clogs, you will not have the power to pump as forcefully as the 80 W pump.

It all depends what you're looking for in a filter pump. Just like with cars, there's a place for four cylinders with turbocharger, and there is a place for a V8. And everything in between.
