I am finally getting round to setting up my Fluval 1200 Profile tank with my own sump.

I have made a herbie overflow system and will be returning the water from the sump via an Eheim 1262.

What outlet should I go for and where should it be positioned? The two stand pipes are in the far left corner.

1. Should I position the outlet in the same area creating a clockwise flow or position it on the other side to 'push' water towards the stand pipe??
2. I ideally want a black outlet though as the tank is black/chrome, would Fluval flexible hose fitted to one of these do the trick:

The flexible hose would just be positioned 2" below the water line facing vertically down. Would this provide suitable aeration to the tank or do I need to fit one of these:

to stimulate surface flow?

3. Is there a cheaper alternative to Fluval flexible hose?

Thanks all

What size hose do you need?

Question: have you experimented with flow rate on the eheim with that kind of head? most canisters are not designed for use with ANY head at all, as having the input and output at the same height gives them a head of 0.

Another concern: are you sure that the eheim wont begin a siphon during a power outage and swallow your entire tank down to the return into the sump, effectively draining your tank 3 or 4 inches?

If your sump is a wet/dry trickle type sump you don't need to worry about tank aeration. The air/water surface area generated by a wet/dry sump will give you all the gas exchange you will ever need.

So place the return for maximum poop pushing efficiency.

A cheap alternative is a couple of pvc elbows and a can of black Krylon fusion spray paint.
