Hi, i recently purchased an Eheim 2026 for my 55 gallon tank.

I was wondering how often i should change the white "fine" pad at the top, and how often i should change the more coarse "blue" pad that is between the filter media?

Also, how often, if ever, should that filter media be cleaned? I use EhfiMech and Efhisubstrat.

Thanks for your help!

I would think that it would depend on your setup, I would break the filter down after 2 months or so and check it out, that should give you a good idea, or if you see reduced flow, that would indicate.

I have 2 eheim 2028's running on a 125 gal heavily planted coldwater tank, I went 6 months w/o maintenance (too long, the pads were dark gray) 3 months is what i do now.

Did you change white and blue or just white?

I have a 2028 and I don't change the blue pad, I just rinse it to get all the gunk out. You can do the same with the white pad but it disintegrates easier so you might only be able to reuse it 2-3 times before having to replace it. And I would clean it if you notice reduced flow. Usually the reduce flow is the result from the white pad getting all clogged up.

Personally I just ditch the white pads, and get some filter floss instead. It's cheaper, easier to find, and works better.

I guess i am not familar with filter floss...is it made by eheim or is it something i have to modify to fit into my 2026

Filter floss is just a simple mech filtration. Very cheap and disposable. You won't need to modify it, nor the filter. Your LFS should have it available.
