I had this filter running on a 55 gallon for a while, then took down the setup. The filter sat dry for probably 6 months, and I have recently set up the same tank again, but notice that the filter is not pushing out the water that it used to.

Its not really weak, but its definatly not pushing out of the spray bar like it did when it was new, and now is often spitting a little air out, as if it was getting a few bubbles in the line...

Anyone experencied this or have any suggestions?

did you give it a proper cleaning? Are you using any type of polishing pad?

Not sure what you mean by proper cleaning. It has 3 media baskets, and i am using efhi mech and efhi substrat with a white fine pad. I changed the pad, took the media out and rinsed the whole thing before I put it back on to cycle...But I didnt clean out the hosing or anything...and it looks like the green hosing has black growth on the inside? I dunno if that information is useful...

I would ditch the fine pad, they seem to clog quickly and reduce the flow. I would also that the head apart and clean the impellar.

Howdy,

Did you clean the impeller unit when you stored it? If not (and I assume that's what you meant with housing): Take it apart and clean it thoroughly! That might be the reason for the low output.

Is the rubber O-ring still in good shape? Or is it brittle? Is it positioned correctly? (i.e. did you take the filter apart and reassemble it in an attempt to fix it?) A loose or dried out O-ring might be the reason for air in your filter. Or a loose tubing connection on the suction-side.

The 20 series doesn't go bad from sitting around unused. If cleaned and stored properly they will fire right up again. I decommissioned mine for over 2 years and it worked like new when I hooked it up afterwards,

Thanks Harley, no I did not clean the impeller unit. I only took out the media baskets and washed the media and the inside of the casing that holds the media. I did not disassemble the lid and clean it. I will try that tomorrow, thanks.

Good luck, let us know if it worked.
