Hi all

I`m getting a new cannister for a 96 gallon snakehead tank (130x50x50 cm).
The Eheim 2075 and the Fx5 are roughly the same price over here atm, and was wondering if anyone could recommend one over the other.

I´m leaning towards the eheim, but i have that feeling of getting less for the same price.... twice the gph and filter volume on the fx5
The reason i`m leaning towards the eheim is, the fx5 uses triple the wattage compared to the eheim and is proberly a bit louder. And since its a snakehead tank, the water movement in the tank should be minimal (atlleast the top and mid level`s ).
The fx5 might be a bit over the top anyways, or could i work around that with some DYI plumbing ?

I'm an FX5 fan. Whoever told you FX5's were loud was lying, or had their's set up wrong. Mine runs whisper quiet. The flow doesn't produce an excessive current either, just gives good flow.

There's a thread comparing the FX5 to the Eheim Pro 3 2080. I guess the 2075 is one down the 2080? Might help. Just search 'FX5 and 2080'.

+1 for the FX5. The FX5 is not loud at all, I can only hear it if I put my ear to the canister.

I wouldn't use that comparison myself....

Id go with the FX5 personally. And the FX5 is much quiter than my AC110's the only time I hear it is when I am lowering the water level :) Great flow.

I have a Eheim 2180 and Fluval FX5 side by side- there is no noise difference- both are almost as quiet. Electricity consumption difference does not add up to much. Fluval does other really cool things- helps change water- you can empty 90 gallon in 10 minutes, you can move it after emptying the filter so it is light (eheim cannot be budged by one person). The wheels are useless on eheim if you cannot slide the filter in and out.
If both cost the same and you do not intend to add any equipment (heater/co2 reactor etc) then I would vote for Fluval. Priming in eheim has been difficult for me, but then again I have only used 4 cannister filters (oh how I love the priming on Fluval).
My two cents. I have another post talking about my probs with pro 3.
Best of luck.

outside the box and get a Rena XP3, all you need and great value
