i have the 2180 with the 500w heater built in and it is overheating my tank. i am definatly sure it is the eheim. how do you turn off the heater if you even can?
You didn't say what temp you set your Eheim 2180 at, an if this a Bran New filter just email or call a Eheim rep. If you set the temp at 76F or 78F on the filter an it is over heating it could be the Eheim heater, But it could also be your room temp due to Summer Heat and if you are using high lights like t5 ho's , VHO ,HQ ?
The Heater could be off an the temp in your room could be hitting over 80F causing your tank water to rise also while the temp is off on your filter .
I would like to hear what others would say also , I'm planning on buying a use Eheim 2180 or a use 2260 to replace my Blue Line 55 HD 1100gph pump an
Nu-Clear 533,547 filters the pump is running hot causing my water to heat up 5F more than room temp is at plus another 2 for my t5 Ho's so if my room temp is at 84F my temp in my tank can be at 90F -91F and I don't have any heater i mine. But the fishes are doing OK
i have 2 tanks in the room one has a sump and the room is always set at 75F. the other tank has no problems, i am using t5 lights on both tanks and on the one with the eheim is overheating and it has not been that hot here last couple days. i have looked at all other possible things that could be heating up the water. i got the filter from a friend so it is not a brand new one. the temp is set to 75F on the filter but it keeps on rising, when i took the filter out for a day and put in an eheim withouth the heater the themp droped a good couple degres. i am almost 100 percent sure it is the heater in the eheim, i would really just like to deisable the heater coulse the filter is great, but the heater is getting anoying.
On page 13 on the manual it states "Keep the SET key pressed and additionally press the '-' (MINUS) key. The temperature display counts down to 18C. Then the temperature display changes over to OFF. The heating is switched off and the POWER LED is extinguished"
