For some reason, my brand new eheim 2213 is humming. It isn't like when air goes through the pump, is a drone. There is no air in it, and ive already taken it apart a few times. Is it because my came with a canister for the media that goes inside the outer canister? I have heard of people using just latice screens and having no issues, but mine didn't come with those. This is a brand new filter. Thanks

Howdy,

I have no issues with the media basket in my 2213, it's dead-quiet. How long has it been humming for? Did you take the impeller unit apart and reassemble? I doubt it's air, that's a grinding noise, not humming. Also, does it rest on a plywood floor that might resonate? You may want to put it on a piece of styrofoam to see if that does anything for you.

Best of luck,

ya thats what i was gonna say, try styrofoam under it, and make sure the impellor isnt loose or broken, that would be my only oppinion, that the impellor is vibrating off balance.

I don't think is vibrating on the plywood, its makes the sound from the top assembly. The impeller looks fine, the shaft isn't chipped. I have had it sitting on towels and cheesecloth, so it has to be the impeller assembly, which is what i thought it was. Any ideas on how i can fix this?

My 2213 its very old 20 years and dead silence, you say yours its new, how long its been running?, i'm asking this because every time i clean mine there is some humming noyse in the begining then goes away. Make sure the bushing are setting correctly, switch them, put some silicone on the shaft, make sure all your hoses are fit and tight, could be air going in, when star up bounce back and forward until all the air exit.
