I bought mine new for about 6 months ago, and the water current/pump is weaker, and the canister makes noise. Could it cause by the extra carbon pad that Ive added? By removing carbon pad, will the pump go stronger and if i remove substratPro from canister to the fish tank, will that affect biological cycle? It will be lot more easier to clean if theres no substrate pro in the can.

The carbon pad and the fine filter pad do offer more restriction, especially after they've been in service a while and begin to clog.

i just threw away the carbon pad, the polish pad is in a bad shape. Washed all substrat and cleaned the siphon tube. The current is so much stronger but the noise still exist, it is coming from the cap of the canister.

Is the filter fully primed with water so that no air bubbles are present?
Did you check the impeller, impeller shaft and rubber impeller bushings for wear?
Did you clean the pump head when you cleaned the media?

Could be something stuck in the impeller.Look at the manual as to how to get it apart and clean the impeller.Sometimes a bit of sand or a snail shell gets in there.

yes i've cleaned all, what is impeller, the fan thingy?

You just need to turn the pump head cover over and turn the "fan thingy holder inner" (impeller chamber cover)and make sure its clean and intact. Mine used to make a noise when I first primed it up, give it a lil shake and got all the bubbles out and it was fine.

thx for the info. I thought the filter was too old(6 months), but the noise is finally gone. I was tried pulling out the impeller and accidentally pulled out the straw and fan(the magnet was stuck in the canister cap), don't know how to get the cylindral magnet out, but the filter still runs normally.
Thanks everyone.

If the magnet is still in the pump head and the impeller blades (fan thingy) are in your hand, then the impeller assembly is BROKEN and you need to purchase a new one. The impeller assembly is sold as one part and the impeller shaft (what you called a straw) is sold as a separate part.

Please read the instruction manual to learn the proper names for the parts so you can order the correct part.

It is possible that it was broken upon delivery but mishandling the parts I mentioned will definitely cause issues with your filter. The impeller assembly and the shaft are designed to work in perfect alignment and will eventually stop working properly if allowed to continue to run in a damaged state.
