Hello I just recently acquired a 2215 from a friend who has had it for years in his house and does not have any media for it. He also didn't have the pre-filter and I'm wondering if I can just put some mesh in front of the tube? Also I have looked but cannot find anywhere the order for the media to go inside? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

He means the little tray the media goes on. You should be able to order a replacement part from EHEIM, a online store, or a member here on MFK. It should be pretty cheap.

As for media, I would recommend a layer of Ehfimech on the very bottom followed by the Ehfiifix (to separate media) and top that off with the Ehfisubstrat. You may also want some Purigen as well as some filter floss (100% Polyester Fiber Fill will do fine) on top. If you need some extra biofiltration, a few disks (along with the extra pieces you cut off) cut from a sheet of this would do nicely to supplement your biofiltration or if you want to go hardcore, a liter or two of the 5/8" balls would do even better.

It all depends on how you want it set up. Expierment. Put your filter floss right on top of the prefilter (Ehfimech) or a better idea would be to put it right after the coarse filtration (Ehfiifix). But then you would have to empty the biomedia to replace the filter floss, but it would keep you biomedia cleaner.

That is the beuty of a canister, there are a thousand and one ways to set it up. None are wrong and may not neccessarily function any better or worse, it just meets the needs of the user better.

Eheim makes a nice floss thats shaped perfectly its called ehfisynth and it goes on top of the ehfi substrat pro
