The $80-90 fluval 404's appear to be all sold out on ebay now so I'm looking at switching to the Eheim 2215. Folks had originally said to get the 2217 I was looking at getting 2x2215's.

1 x 2217 = 264gph

2 x 2215 = 328gph

Plus side to 2 x 2215's would be 2 intakes to cover a wider area of the tank for sucking up debris. Also, would I have more biological surface area with the 2x2215 vs 1x2217? For folks who don't know there is also an emp400 on the tank, which is 75gallons,

What size stock is this ? I have first hand experience with the classic canisters and they are worth every penny my 2215 makes my 55 shimmer with a little help. Although the 2026 is supposed to be a great filter. This all really depends on your tank and stock though... for a 75 I would say 2-2215 though not being the most economical would make your water beautiful depending on stock. Although a 2217 is a little cheaper... And I cant comment on the 2026 having never used one .

Stocking will initially be 10 EBJD's with 3 3" plecs. Once the EBJD's get to 3-4" I'll sell off the surviving members until I have 2-3 left.

So 3 plecs and 2-3 EBJD's with 8-10" striata loaches once the EBJD's get bigger. That's what the stocking list would end up as.

I think the 2217 and your HOB would be ok as long as the tank is cycled well. Also your cheapest option. For more leg room get 2 2215's :) But like I said the 2026 could be the perfect fit for you I just don't know first hand may want to research that filter a bit further. :) best of luck I keep some JD's as well they are sweet

I mention the 2026 pro II only because it's 199 at bigals which would actually be cheaper than the 2x2215's. I assume it would also have much more biomiedia room/potential than the 2217 or the 2215's combined.
Not too sure about that. Id pull up the chart first let me dig up the info real quick

I didn't see any charts or anything but I did find this in google cached pages:

2 x 2215's = 8 litres of filter space, 1240 litres/hour flow, using 30W of power or
1 x 2213, 1 x 2215 = 7 litres of filter space, 1060 litres/hour of flow, using 23W of power (and some change in my pocket)
1 x 2026 = 5 litres of filter space, 950 litres/hour flow, using 20W of power

The tradeoff from what I am understanding is the inability to use bioballs/noodles in the 2215 as you could in the 2026?

You can use about anything in a 2215 for bio media. Substrate pro Is very hard to beat though!
