Hello everyone. Trying to figure out why my brother in laws eheim 2215's water flow is weak. he said that it used to stream out of the tube fast and steady but now it is a weak stream. Any ideas on what is the problem. I myself own a 2217 and no problems at all.

Maybe the impeller is getting algea/brown gunk buildup.

I know on my Aquaclear 20 (not the same thing but) the impeller gets slowed down by the algea/brown gunk building up.

I give it a good rinse with a hose and it flows like crazy again.

Can you give us more information on its service life ? It could be anything from it being clogged up (Like they are supposed to get they are a filter) To something like white algae in the intake. We need a bit more info bud.

It is fairly new. My brother in law said he hooked it up in January 09. He has cleaned it. Took it apart. Dont know what else he can do.

I experienced the same problem with my 2217. EHEIM (www.EHEIM.com) recommended to fill the canister with water after all media is in place. With the tubing connectors in closed position, fill inlet and outlet tubing with water as well. I made all necessary connections, plugged it in, it primed, and a steady strong stream was flowing again out of the outlet. Don't forget to 'VASELINE' all rubber gaskets, small and large. Good luck!

Thanks!
