Eheim 2217 hoses

I have an Eheim 2217 and need to replace the hoses (they're too short to use with my 55g's new stand). The hose sizes are 12mm / 16mm and 16mm / 22mm and kind of pricey, so I was wondering if I could replace them with some vinyl hosing from Lowes, sizes 1/2in / 5/8in (12.7mm / 15.9mm) and 5/8in / 3/4in (15.9mm / 19.1mm).

Also, the vinyl hosing hosing from Lowes seems to be just a little more flimsy and less rigid than the original Eheim hoses. Will the psi from the canister filter pose any threat of leaks forming or should it be okay?

the hoses from lowes works fine. i use the 5/8" id hose for my return lines.

If they are only a little too short, you could set the filter on a couple books or a platform to raise it up instead of replacing the hoses.

Just be sure the hose you get isn't too flimsy & kinks easily.
