Hey guys, i'm looking at getting another filter to filter my 55 gallon aquarium. I currently have a brand new FX5 on the way, and was looking at either an Eheim 2217 or 2227. I can pick up a (used) 2227 local to me for about the same as the 2217 new.

I was leaning towards the 2227 since I am going to be upgrading to a 300 gallon within about 8 months (for 2 motoro rays hopefully), and possibly a datnoid or 2.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I'm not familiar with the 2227, but my 2217 has been great. The 2217 is super quiet does a good job of filtration and when bought new comes with media, hoses and even quick disconnects.

Howdy,

The 2217 is a no-failure-possible design. I love mine on my 40 gal, it'll be good for a 55 gal as well.
