in a world of my own...
Ok Ive never had canster filter before and was wondering if this was normal...

Ive had the Eheim 2217 running for over 6 months now and did a super cleaning of the media recently but now the outflow isnt running as strongly as it did when i first set it up. Theres no bends in the hoses theres nothing blocking the spraybar holes what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Did you clean the impeler?, did you replace the mechanical sponge media? we need more details.

Sorry Noob to canisters....no didnt clean the impeller...its in the lid part can i get to that? Didnt replace anything just cleaned all the yucky stuff off the media in a bucket and put it back together...is there more that I should have done? Did i miss a step?

check to make sure all your tubing is clear...a friend of mine has a 2213 and his tubes got clogged with algea or some kinda bacteria growth inside his hoses

I doubt its a tubing clog the eheim green tubing is visible through so you know if thats the problem.

As for you the mighty squishy :) I reccomend taking off the filter head and carefully taking out the impellar and look for anything wrapped around it and clean the magnet etc but just be careful with the parts I do it once every other month on all my canisters along with their cleanings. Depending on your bio load you also may need to do service more often.

PS Make sure the check valves are all wide open ;)

One last note there could be air trapped inside try giving it a little shake to see how much air trappage you might be dealing with. I always get quite a bit of air in there somehow.

Be VERY careful when messing with the impeller. The shaft is ceramic and is fairly easy to break when you don't know what you're doing (even when you do). As in the previous post, I'd suggest making sure the cannister is fully primed as well. If there is any air in the cannister it will effect the flow rate. The 2217 is a great filter, I love mine.

thanks everyone...couldnt figure out how to get to the impeller though dont wana break it but its flowing abit better now that I shook it but still not as strong as when first set up...but still alot better than it was...thanks again!

NP This is my favorite resource for maintenance and function of the eheim classics

http://www.rexgrigg.com/Eheim Classic Canister instructions.htm

The whole impellar removal and cleaning is really pretty easy. Just use a little confidence (Not too much) and clean the magnet with a Qtip and use needlenose pliers to get any of the synth that might have wrapped around it etc.

Hope it goes well !

i still cant figrure out how to get the top part off to get to the impeller:irked:
any tips or pictures on how to do it??

did you get the top off? then you need to unlock that securing piece (looks kind of like a propellor) and remove the cover . . . this will allow you to remove the impeller

the securing piece can be tough to turn, so do it carefully, and you only have to turn it enough to unlock it

personally, I think your problem is that the filter may not have been fully primed when you started it up again, but you do need to make cleaning the impeller part of your regular maintenance

this may help a bit: http://www.eheimparts.com/client/homepage.aspx
