According to numerous sites, the Eheim classics series is divided into the "regular" sized and large sized filters. I was looking at the specs of the 2217 and the 2250 and the specs on their GPH is nearly the same. The 2217 has a max 265GPH and the 2250 has max 300GPH. The problem is that 2217 is rated at max 159 US gallons while the 2250 is a whopping 265 gallons . Why are they rated so differently? Is there a difference that I am not aware of?

The 2250 has a much larger media capacity. GPH is a inaccurate way of measuring a filter's capacity as more bio-capacity = more filtering ability.

:iagree:

Couldn't have said it any better.

OTOH - you can snag two of the 2217 filters for roughly the same price as the 2250. That gets you double the flow and the same media capacity as the larger unit. Plus you get the redundancy of two units. It really depends on your needs and space, and willingness to shop around.

go get a 2262.....18 liters of media that you can put in it!!!

And a 900gph flow to boot! But in reality the 2262 is in a far different pricing league than the 2217

EHEIM 2262 is by far much better, But i would say 2250 is enough

Guys,

How in the world can you make filter recommendations when you don't even know tank size and stocking level???
